FAQ's about Jeonju Hash House Harriers and Harriettes

1. I do not drink or eat on a hash, why do I still have to pay?

The Hash is a community group and runs regularly, so it is not just for one person but everyone in the group. The money is not just used for the food and drinks, but whatever is remaining goes towards the making of basic t-shirts, patches etc that are given out to new hashers and regular hashers for free with no extra charge.  We make our own chalk to mark the trails with and also promoting the group with flyers.

Everyone has to pay if they join in the hash even the those who are in charge of running group (Grand Master, Haberdasher etc).

2. Why does it cost more for a bigger event?

On the bigger events the cost is a little higher because the normal cost is not enough to cover everything that is planned for the event. Hence, why some of the funds from previous hashes are held back to subsidies the bigger events. What we pay for on these events are; the food, which is normally a bbq with salad etc; the drinks, which is bought in greater quantities; and special patches/t-shirts for the event.

3. Why are there not many people on the hash?

We live in a transient community where people do not stay for long. It is very dependent upon the time of year also as many do not like going out in cold weather or even hot weather. There are many that do the hash once and do not return, there are a few regulars who hash every two weeks and there are some who occassionally turn up.

There are hash days when the are low and there are hash days when the numbers can get to more than 30 people. Once we start having cosistant numbers we will be able to lower the cost of the Hash.

4. I did not enjoy the hash and feel I can do better. How do I go about getting involved?

Ever so often the group has a change over in mis-management. This is the chance for anyone to put themselves up to join mis-management. However, to become part of mis-managment you must turn up to the hash regularly and show committment to the group.

5. There is a trail I have found that is worth running. What do I do next?

Firstly you need to let the GM know about the trail before the day of the hash (at least a week in advance) so that it can be organised and an experienced Hare can take you out and show you how to lay trail.

There are two kinds of trail a "dead" and a "live". If you are a runner then you will do a "live" trial (which is more fun). If you are a walker then it will be a "dead" trial (pre-set trail).
